Ones to Watch - Menswear Catwalk - London Fashion Week - Bodybound Autumn/Winter 2012

Bodybound - Autumn/Winter 2012

I was lucky enough to be given a gift of seated tickets to the OTW Menswear Catwalk show.

Lee Lapthorne, Textiles designer and Founder of Doll- Creative events agency gave me these tickets due to the hard work and determination I was showing during my placement for On|off atLondon & Paris Fashion week. The Catwalk was showcased by Vauxhall Fashion Scout, there was some fantastic collections the first of which being Bodybound.

Bodybound Autumn / Winter 2012, created by young talent Kim Choong-Wilkins, is a heady futuristic collection, taking inspiration from Blade Runner and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The collection showcased gold cropped jackets with heavy shoulder detailing and matching visors. The gold knitwear was particularly different as well as a wide use of transparent plastic to show the outfit beneath.

As a textiles designer seeing this collection in person was just fantastic, Turvey has really pushed the boundaries in menswear in this collection using delicate fabrics combined with this weaves and knitwear alongside a really interesting collection of print designs with a models face being printed facing forwards and backwards.
Really love the pink jumper he made - although don't know if I could pull it off, might need a few more gym sessions first.

Ones To Watch - Menswear Catwalk - Julian Zigerli

I was rather unsure what to expect when arriving at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Venue, although one thing that was for certain was that there would be lots of press, due to the overwhelming demand in menswear collections over the past few years and that was certainly the case.

Known for experimenting with innovative production techniques including laser cutting and
translucency, Julian Zigerli created a sports luxe inspired collection.
Sheer long sleeved cotton tops were paired with cargo-inspired trousers and hooded sports jackets tightly tied around the face.

The collection included many padded pieces including gilets and puffer jackets with built in backpacks - which looked amazing!!!
These built in backpacks were worn with matching trousers in patterned cotton. Stepping away from the sports luxe, Zigerli showcased a deep red knitted jumper matched with extra short dusty grey shorts.

A really interesting and well developed collection!
