London Design Week- Chelsea Harbour

Walking the Pink Carpet at LDN Design Week 2014

I was invited to the Trade Preview of London Design Week where some of the most inspiring interior design companies exhibit and showcase their latest collections, along with industry presentations talking of whats on trend for the up coming seasons.

View from the Tatler Magazine Cafe within the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour
The event reflects the dynamism, ingenuity and genuine passion for design today (including lots of British Class) and has plenty to offer whether you are a fan of classic contemporary, an admirer of cutting-edge cool or just keen to seek out something innovative or unusual.

It was such a great opportunity to make some new contacts within the interiors market and not to mention how inspiring it was...

Scottish Fashion Awards 2013 - Graduate of the Year 2013 Nominee

Walking the Red Capet.
I feel so honoured to be nominated for a Scottish Fashion Award 2013 as Fashion and Textiles Graduate of the Year selected by the worlds leading fashion houses, the most renowned and respected fashion publications and the leading figures in the fashion and textiles industry.

The 8th Annual Scottish Fashion awards took place at the home of Scotland in London, Dover House. Hosted by TV personality, host of MTV & Im a Celeb, Laura Whitmore.

The evening progressed to London's most central venue - 8 Northumberland where we enjoyed a glorious Scottish Banquet & Champagne and Whisky Reception before a glamorous after party at Whisky Mist, Mayfair.

Meeting the amazing Stella Tennant and Kim Young Seong.

I had the pleasure of chatting to the inspiring Stella Tennant and Kim Young Seong (Chanel) who accepted the award for international designer of the year in place of Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld - they were so appreciative of the Scottish textiles industry and a real inspiration to talk to.
Feature of my collection as "On Trend" for the coming season in the Official Magazine.
It was such a fantastic event celebrating the vast wealth of Scottish talent and position that we hold within the fashion and textiles industry, I am so honoured to be recognised for my contribution and to be part of such a prestigious event in the fashion capital.

Pure London & Zandra Rhodes Catwalk Show.

I had a fantastic few days at Pure London 34 where I was able to explore the UKs largest and most influential buying event, with over 1000+ brands.
I attended the show as an shadow buyer and scout for a clothes and accessories company which gave me such a useful insight into the buying process, I was also lucky enough to attend WGSN trend seminars as well as the Catwalk show of British Fashion Icon, Zandra Rhodes.

I assisted Rhodes at Paris and London Fashion Week and it was fantastic to meet her again and hear the inspiration behind the designs of her latest collection presented on the catwalk live at Pure.

Artnthat - Matt Russell's Graduate Collection - 6ft Printed Fringing

As a development from my screen printed fringed lampshade seen here I decided to push my limits and work with a much longer length of fringing for the use in the fashion and interiors market.

I have had such a fantastic response and a real sense of awe and appreciation at the effort and lengths I tackled in printing on-top of the finging.

"Perspective" My interim exhibition - A snapshot of my graduate collection so far...

This snapshot of my work is an insight into my research and development of the topic of 'Place'.
In depth, I have developed my own interpretations of landscape, mapping and my own recordings of travel. With Aborigine Songlines, Gilbert & George and Keith Haring as my inspiration, I have now begun to construct my own abstract vision of mapping out using the constraints of scale and the interaction within the contemporary interiors market.

You can read about my design process and the printing of my fringing in detail via my previous blog post.

The fringing worked extremely well as my first sample and I look forward to developing it further for my final degree show collection.
With the fantastic response that It received during the exhibition I'm looking to create more samples and branch into the fashion market with the fringing taking it in exciting innovative new directions.
